Have you ever needed to interpret a joke in the middle of a meeting? How can we convey the true meaning of culture-specific idioms or proverbs?

Our objective for this seminar will be to encourage participants to look beyond the words they see on the surface, to the broader meaning and context, in order to improve their output. This will be done by drawing their attention to the concept of 意訳 as it pertains to items which are notoriously difficult to translate: idioms, metaphors, jokes, proverbs, and figures of speech.

The morning session on interpreting will be led by Izumi Suzuki, a renowned court interpreter with many years of automotive experience. The afternoon session on translation will be led by University of Wisconsin's Technical Japanese Program professor, Jim Davis. Both instructors will be available for questions at the end of the day.

Please join us for a one-day seminar packed with knowledge on interpreting and translation as well as networking opportunity for Japanese-English language professionals serving for automotive industry.

All are welcome to attend but space is limited, so register soon!
