Eighth Annual JAT Contest for New and Aspiring Japanese-to-English Translators

Seeking to encourage talented people to enter the translation field, JAT is pleased to announce its eighth annual Japanese-to-English translation contest for new and aspiring translators. The actual passage to be translated is a real-life text—the sort of thing a working commercial translator might well be called upon to do.

Open to:
Anyone with less than three years’ experience as a professional translator
JAT membership not required
Previous entrants (except winners) are welcome to enter again

2nd Place:

+ Feedback from the judges
+ free registration for the 23rd International Japanese/English Translaition Conference (IJET-23) to be held on June 2-3, 2012, in Hiroshima, Japan.

+ transportation to and from IJET-23
+ free accommodations during IJET-23

Entries now closed for the Seventh Annual JAT Contest for New and Aspiring Translators

Entries for the Seventh Annual JAT Contest for New and Aspiring Translators were closed on November 2, 2010, as scheduled.

The Japanese-to-English division fielded 41 valid entries, and the English-to-Japanese division, 52 valid entries. We would like to sincerely thank everyone who entered and everyone who helped to spread the word about the contest.
Entries are anonymized during the judging period by assigning ID numbers. The ID numbers and translations of the five finalists will be announced on the JAT website on December 21, 2010. First and second place winners’ names will be announced on January 24, 2011.
