Overview
In the fields of commercial translation and localization, the Language Lead is the professional responsible for translation quality.
In this session, two experienced Language Leads will talk about their daily duties, the challenges they encounter, and the rewards of their roles.
Translators who primarily handle initial drafts may have limited visibility into subsequent processes. This session takes a closer look at what Language Leads actually do in later processes and what they look for in translators and translations.
Target audience:

-Professionals interested in future roles such as Language Lead, LQA, or other management-related positions
(This session will be carried out in Japanese.)

Speakers
Ryo Gonokami
Freelance business translator with 20 years of experience and father of three. Mainly specializes in marketing content in the tech sector. Additional experience includes database and telecommunications specifications, luxury fashion brand advertising copy, subtitles, and jokes.
The first decade of his career focused on translation and review; the second decade has centered on Language Lead responsibilities. Currently serves as an in-house Language Lead at a client company. Enjoys experimenting with programming in his spare time.
Reina Shumiya
Freelance English-to-Japanese translator, revisor, QA specialist, Language Lead, and translation test evaluator. Also an author.
Specializes in IT marketing and tourism marketing. Currently serves as Language Lead on major projects for two large global companies via overseas translation agencies. With 20 years of experience, she continues to pursue quality in translation and efficiency in operations.
After graduating with a degree in English literature, she worked as a preparatory school instructor (English and social studies) and studied at a translation and interpreting school in Canada before becoming a professional translator in her twenties.
Lecturer for the Fellow Academy online course “Master Course: IT & Marketing” (2022). Speaker at JAT PROJECT Nagoya 2024, JTF Honyakusai, Yasashii Honyaku Juku, Human Powered, and many other talk events. Author of the 10-part column series “How to Respond Quickly to Emails” (revised edition, 2023). Certified IT Translator. Mother of two and a stage 4 breast cancer survivor in remission.
