Spring 2025 J>E eJuku session

- Language direction: Japanese to English

- Format: online forum discussion and series of weekly videoconferences

- Period: May through June 2025 (see below)

- Fees: None

- Eligibility:


1. JAT membership through to the end of the session (non-members required to join JAT after being selected as eJuku participants)

2. Native or near-native English proficiency (eJuku is a place for polishing already excellent English)

3. Ideally no more than a couple of years' experience as a professional translator

4. High motivation to learn and pledge to participate actively in the planned videoconferences (ideally all five) and text-based forum discussions (ideally on a daily basis)

Thurs., May 15: formal announcement of eJuku 2025, application period begins
Sun., May 25: Application deadline

Wed., May 28: Mentors notify participants; first translation text assigned
Sat., May 31: Zoom Meeting 1 (social/getting-to-know-you); Basecamp forum opens; first translation assigned
Wed., June 4: First translations due
Sat., June 7: Zoom Meeting 2
Wed., June 11: 2nd translation due
Sat., June 14: Zoom Meeting 3
Wed., June 18: 3rd translation due
Sat., June 21: Zoom Meeting 4
Wed., June 25: 4th translation due
Sat., June 28: Zoom Meeting 5 (wrap-up)
Mon., June 30: Forum closes, questionnaire distributed
Sun., July 6: Questionnaire deadline

*Videoconferences are usually held on Saturday mornings 10:00 to 11:30 JST.

- Application and screening:

If you would like to know more about the upcoming eJuku session or are interested in participating, please write to Richard, the eJuku coordinator posthaste. He will send you the Call for Applications document, which will contain all of the necessary information for you to decide to apply. If there is overwhelming demand, the call may be closed when a reasonable limit to the number of applicants has been reached (less than the 10 days allotted).
