I studied abroad at the Kyoto Consortium for Japanese Studies (KCJS), a Columbia University administered Kyoto University hosted program, from 2006-2007. I received a BA from the University of Michigan with a dual major in Japanese studies and philosophy in 2008. After graduating, I participated in the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) and taught English at a public junior high school in Mie Prefecture for two years. In 2009 I passed the highest level (i.e., level 1) of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) and then completed the JET Program Translation & Interpretation Course the following year.

I have been a full-time freelance translator since 2010. I specialize in anime, video game, film (screenplay/subtitles), manga, and other dialogue-heavy translations. While translating in-game dialogue is my specialty, I also translate text for all other aspects of video games, such as tutorials, menus, and even press releases and developer interviews. I have done translation and/or editing work on video games in a variety of genres (e.g., role-playing, action, social) on a number of platforms (e.g., Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita, iOS, Android). I also have experience translating (i.e., producing English subtitle text for) anime. I am willing to provide a list of video games I have worked on upon request.
