Background

Hello! I’ve been a J-E translator since 2008 in Japan and Canada when I helped a friend who is a certified public accountant in Tokyo with some financial statements (and I still help him with those annually). Since then, I’ve worked with a local translation company and other institutions/individuals on projects ranging from medical device complaint reports to prefectural tourism to survey answers. I’ve also had the opportunity to help out on some small but interesting jobs including a script synopsis on a Japanese TV show and newspaper articles. On a volunteer basis, I have helped a friend in translating liner notes of Japanese pop albums, and as the founder of the music blog “Kayo Kyoku Plus”, I sometimes have to translate information from Japanese Wikipedia articles on singers and songs to put into my articles. In fact, I recently completed a multi-part translation on my blog regarding an article about Tatsuro Yamashita’s new album “Softly” on Yahoo Japan News. I can also help out on editing and proofreading J-E translations by other people. I lived in Japan for a total of 19 years: two years (1989-1991) in Gunma Prefecture as an ALT on the JET Programme and then seventeen years (1994-2011) in Chiba Prefecture as an English conversation teacher working in Chiba and Tokyo. 池坂アランです。東京に住んでいる税理士の友達が僕に財務諸表の翻訳の仕事を頼むことがきっかけで2008年から日本とトロントで日英翻訳の仕事をしています（まだ毎年手伝っています。）。それ以来トロントのJ-E翻訳会社や他の個人と翻訳の手伝いの経験もあります（医療機器のクレーム報告書、県内観光、アンケートの答え、など）。なお、テレビのスクリプト概要や新聞の記事のような小さくても面白い翻訳のプロジェクトにも参加したことがあります。 ボランティアベースの取組で友達のお願いで日本のポップアルバムの数枚のライナーノーツを翻訳しました。音楽ブログ「Kayo Kyoku Plus」の創立者として時々日本のウィキペディアにある歌手と歌の記事の情報を英語に翻訳して自分のブログに含めることにします。実際は最近Yahoo! Japan Newsに出版された山下達郎の最新アルバム「Softly」の記事を複数パートでブログで翻訳を完成しました。最後に他のJ-E翻訳の編集と最終校正もできます。 私は全部で19年間日本に住んでいました。初めの2年間は（1989～1991）群馬県でJET ProgrammeのALTとして働いていました。それから17年は（1994～2011）千葉県の市川市に住んで東京と千葉で英会話を教えました。 If you need help, please let me know. 宜しくお願い致します。
