Background

I am a freelance Japanese/English interpreter and translator in the Washington, DC area. My focus is Japanese interpreting in manufacturing, automotive, technical and governmental fields as well as patent and legal J>E translation. Major interpreting clients include the US Department of State, Honda and Daikin. I do everything from simultaneous booth work for conferences to whispering/shouting on factory floors. Until going fully freelance in 2015, I worked as a Senior Interpreter / Translator at Honda R&D Americas, Inc. outside of Columbus, OH for over seven years. I did some translating and editing, but my work consisted mainly of simultaneous interpretation of meetings, TV conferences and presentations on a wide range of technical and business matters. I also helped to manage the team of in-house interpreters as the Interpretation Area Leader. My previous work experience includes freelance J>E translation, mostly patents, an interpreting internship with Hino Motors Manufacturing USA in Arkansas and five years translating and interpreting in local government offices in Aichi, Japan on the JET Programme. I graduated from the Monterey Institute of International Studies with an M.A. in Japanese Translation and Interpretation, and I also hold a B.A. in English Literature from Boston University.
