Background
I have worked as a freelance translator for a number of years, and also was the resident Japanese-English translator at Kyoto City Hall in 2014. I obtained a PhD in Literary Translation from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, in 2012. I am an Associate Professor in Translation Studies and English Literature in the Faculty of Letters at Kansai University, Osaka. In 2019 I published the book "Translating Modern Japanese Literature (Cambridge Scholars Publishing). In 2021 I won the Grand Prize in the JLPP International Translation Competition.
