Japan's Project to Simplify Courtroom Language

Presented by Dr Mami Hiraike Okawara,
Takasaki City University of Economics

Dr Okawara, who obtained her PhD in the area of forensic linguistics from the University of Sydney, Australia, will present a talk on the Japanese government's project -- effectively its first major plain language project -- to simplify courtroom language in preparation for the lay judge (saiban'in) system.
