Client Relations in the 21st Century

Speaker Profile

John Burton – New Zealand based translator
Kenji Shimizu – Sports (soccer), visual media (subtitling, dubbing), game translator

Outline
The first half of the meeting will include a presentation by John Burton on maintaining relations with Japanese based clients while living overseas, and a presentation by Kenji Shimizu (@transcreative) on using Twitter to generate work. The second half of the meeting will take the form of a round-table discussion on using social networking sites (SNS) such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.
SNS are having an impact on all areas of life, with client relations being no exception. In a hyper-linked world, knowing what level of communication to maintain, and with whom, can be tough. The discussion will cover how SNS can affect our workflow, finding new work and maintaining client relations. Participants will be invited to share their experiences and opinions and help us decide whether the effects that SNS are having on translators and their careers are positive, negative, or negligible!
