Breakthrough in quality and speed

Speaker: Yuji Yamamoto

Outline:

In the first part of his lecture, Yuji will introduce UTX (universal terminological exchange), a simple, versatile glossary format. In the second part, he will talk about leveraging UTX glossaries with machine translation software, an area not explored by many. He will also talk about his recent book on Practical Japanese, a writing guide for practical documents. Regardless of the domains of your translation, leveraging various translation tools and skills is crucial to ensure quality and boost productivity. Unfortunately, terminology management is one of the more neglected fields. The lecture starts from the basics of terminology management in translation, covers hidden benefits, and explores its various applications. Practical Japanese is a set of simple writing rules for practical documents. By learning the basics of terminology and the style guide, and with powerful tools to use them, you will be able to boost quality and speed of your daily translation work. Prior to the lecture, participants are encouraged to read his online articles on various translation tools/skills and Practical Japanese. If you have questions regarding these topics, Yuji will be happy to answer in English during and after the lecture (the lecture itself will be delivered in Japanese, by request)! At the end of the lecture, a free copy of his book 『IT時代の実務日本語スタイルブック』 will be given out to a lucky winner!
