What do we mean by "clear Japanese"? People often complain about bureaucratic gobbledegook—that's obscure Japanese. What are the consequences of obscure Japanese? How can we make it clearer? Is "clear" the same thing as "comprehensible"?
I will show you some obscure Japanese and its effects. Together, we will think about the causes of obscure Japanese and how we can make it clearer.

Oda Junko (PR consultant and business e-mail instructor)
Worked for seven years as a Japanese teacher in a juku. Worked in Nakano ward office till 2007, then went independent as a PR consultant, particularly for high-profile community service organisations and individuals. She is currently researching plain writing at graduate school. Her publications include "Improving Local Government Websites", "Writing E-mails That Clearly Say What You Want To Say", and "Writing and E-mail Skills for Public Officials".
