Seminar
Journalist Nojima Tsuyoshi has closely followed events in Hong Kong and Taiwan in response to China’s shifting national security stance and its expanding influence as the world’s second largest economy, a development that has increased regional frictions with neighbors like Japan and raised concerns of a new cold war with the United States. Based on his years of experience reporting on the region, Mr. Nojima will explore the background of events like the 2014 “Umbrella Movement” and later protest in Hong Kong, look at political and other trends across the straits in Taiwan, and consider the regional implications of policy changes in China under President Xi Jinping. The presentation will be in Japanese.

The seminar will run for 90 minutes.
The speaker will give a presentation for the first hour and ten minutes, followed by a 20-minute question and answer period.
*The event will be recorded and uploaded to the JAT site for viewing by members.
