Who can see my profile?
Upon joining JAT you are required to enter various information, specifying whether said information should be publicly listed in the
Find a Translator page (JAT Directory). Your details you ticked as “Show in profile” on the
Account page will be displayed on the
Find a Translator page. By listing your details in the directory you make yourself visible to those searching for interpreters and translators, which may lead to offers of work. If you tick “I do not want my profile to be publicly listed in the JAT directory”, you will not be publicly listed in the JAT directory, but your profile will visible to other JAT members from
Forums. JAT is careful to ensure that the personal information of its members is not divulged to third parties or other members.
When entering information in the
Account page, you are able to select whether or not to show each item in profile.
How do I keep my personal details private?
Your address, email address, telephone number and other such details registered at the time of joining are generally kept private. You can choose whether to make information entered on the
Account page to be shown in profile for each item. If you tick “I do not want my profile to be publicly listed in the JAT directory”, you will not be publicly listed in the JAT directory, but your profile will visible to other JAT members from
Forums.
How do I get listed in the JAT Directory?
Only JAT members can be listed in the
Find a Translator directory. After you have registered and verified your email address, log into the JAT website and go to your
Account page. Fill in all the sections and make sure that “I do not want my profile to be publicly listed in the JAT directory (Your profile will be visible to other JAT members).” is not checked. (Remember that you can show or hide specific details from your public profile, using the “Show in profile” check boxes provided next to various sections of the
Account page.)
Information entered in the Professional Information fields of the
Account page is displayed in the same format in which it is entered, and we therefore recommend setting it out in a manner that is clear to prospective clients. Also, keep in mind that the directory is referred to by clients looking for translators and interpreters, searching with keywords related to specialization, region and language, so be as descriptive as possible.
What is the URL for my profile page on the website?
Your member’s-only URL on the JAT site is jat.org/translators/profile/XXXX. You can search for your profile on JAT directory.
Should I make my profile public?
You can set your member profile to be fully or partially public. Some members choose to keep some of their details private for personal reasons, while others make their information public in order to make it easier for clients to contact them. Contact details and professional information (such as your work history and specializations) may be made public or visible to members only. You can change this settings on the
Account page. (If you are not interested in new clients contacting you but do want your profile in the directory, you may want to clearly state something like, “I am not available for new work at this time”.)
How will someone interested in my profile contact me?
Upon becoming a JAT member, you will be issued with your own URL (jat.org/translators/profile/XXXX). If you tick “
Show the contact form on my profile page” in the “Email” section on the
Account page, you will become able to receive queries submitted from your profile page. Your email address will never be displayed publicly to users. Queries entered via the contact form will be sent to the email address you have designated in the
Account page. If you would prefer to be contacted by another means, please include the relevant information on your profile.
