I started volunteering for JAT during the pandemic as a way to support new translators and help create more opportunities for professional development at JAT. Two years on, my motivation is the same, and joining the board feels like the natural next step. If elected, I look forward to collaborating with the board members to broaden JAT activities, and build a stronger, more supportive JAT community.

狩野ハイディさんは、JATの活動がコロナ禍で一番下火にあったときから、活性化のためにとJATのPR活動を積極的に手助けしてくれています。JATがニュースレターの再開にいたったのも、ひとえに狩野さんのおかげにほかなりません。また、今年はIJET実行委員会の委員も務め、当該イベントの広範囲にわたる情報告知に貢献してくれました。狩野さんは、翻訳者としてのキャリアも長く、人を惹きつける広告コピーの書き方や効果的なマーケティングにも深い知見をお持ちです。さらには、JATという他所コミュニティの枠を超えて自身でもソーシャルメディア上で同業者コミュニティの運営や、同業者向け・クライアント向けに有益な情報発信をしておられます。このように、業界活性化につながる取り組みや有益な情報発信など行動力にあふれる狩野さんは、JATのリーダーに相応しく、これからのJATの活動に大きく貢献していただけると私は信じております。よって、ここに狩野ハイディさんを日本翻訳者協会の次期理事に強く推薦いたします。

ここ数年、関西地区においてJATのプレゼンスが感じられない状態になっています。KATは存在するものの、うまく機能しているようには思われません。私はこの状態を改善したいと思っています。KATを活性化し、関西在住の翻訳者のネットワークを強化することで、JATの関西での基盤を固めたいと思っています。どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

宮田昭二さんは、今年開催の英日・日英翻訳国際会議（IJET-31）の実行委員としての活動に加わるなど、JATの理念に賛同し積極的に協力してくださっています。また、英日IT翻訳者として多くの顧客から信頼され日々忙しく働いていらっしゃるなかで、翻訳者のマーケティングについて考える「翻訳マーケティング会議」の立ち上げメンバーとしても活躍、業界内でもよく知られた存在です。誠実で行動力のある宮田さんはJATを引っ張っていくリーダーとしてこれからのJATに大きく貢献いただけると確信しております。私は理事として宮田昭二さんを次期理事として強く推薦いたします。

この度理事に立候補しました阪口理恵です。現監事として１期２年の間、JATの運営や活動を見守ってきました。その中で徐々に、「見守ること」だけでは物足りなくなり、踏み込んで議論に参加し、アクションに繋げたいという思いが強まり、理事への立候補を決意するに至りました。
翻訳とは直接縁のない輸入商社で勤務しながら、複業で翻訳をしていた時期が長く、その後フリーとなりました。また、英語とドイツ語という２つのソース言語を通じて、日々文章と向き合っています。そういった背景から、専業と副業、または英語と英語以外という、複数の立場から総合的かつ実感をもって課題に向き合えることが、私の一つの強みではないかと考えております。
また会社員として培ってきた実務経験や、数々のイベントの運営にも関わってきた経験値も、協会の安定した運営を実働部隊として支える上で役立つはずです。
何か大きな組織の変革を目指すよりも、皆が気軽に、どんな些細なことでも質問しあえるような場作り、雰囲気づくりを小さくでも継続していくことで、会員同士のしっかりとしたネットワークを構築し、会員一人一人、そしてJAT全体の「地力」を上げていきたいと考えています。その過程で、一般の方々がJATの存在や翻訳という仕事の価値を理解する機会も創出できればと願っており、会員の皆様と一緒に試行錯誤していきたいと思います。よろしくお願いいたします。

The past five years have seen seismic changes—both in the translation industry and the world at large. Machine translation powered by artificial intelligence has introduced considerable pressure for changes to industry working practices, and the Covid-19 pandemic has radically altered life and work for translators and clients alike.
How should JAT respond to these new realities? Is our traditional model of large-scale, in-person events, such as IJETs and PROJECTs, still viable, or should we pursue a transition towards newer, technology-based formats, such as on-line conferences and presentations? Should we also develop the social side of the organization, with less formal, smaller-group events? This debate will be central to determining the nature of JAT in the coming years.
Having served two past stints as Director, and having also been involved in the staging of several successful IJETs and PROJECTs, I believe that I can offer a valuable perspective on ways in which JAT can evolve and thrive.
Having worked in the translation industry for 25 years (first in-house, then as a freelancer and now as a company owner), I strongly believe that Japanese<>English translation is a highly skilled profession, and that the rewards—both in terms of remuneration and professional satisfaction—should reflect this. I have always regarded JAT as a bastion of high standards in the industry and, if elected, would endeavour to ensure that it remains so.
Education of potential clients and the general public about the realities of the translation process and the levels of skill required by translators in order to do it well will be key to ensuring that J<>E translation remains a viable occupation for people with talent. If elected, I would try to ensure that JAT plays a leading role in this effort.

I am delighted to offer the following endorsement of Phil Robertson for his candidacy as a director in the 2023 election for the Japan Association of Translators Board.
I have known Phil as both a fellow JAT member, director, and friend over more than two decades. He has an excellent track record as a JAT Director and has shown that he is able to work effectively with multiple boards in a variety of key roles such as IJET Liaison, PROJECT Liaison, Vice-President, and director responsible for public relations. He will be thus able to bring a unique perspective and a wealth of experience to the JAT Board as it navigates the current challenging times. Phil has also directly contributed to the professional development of JAT members by sharing his expertise in presentations at IJET, PROJECT, and TAC events, and is an effective and professional communicator. Phil is not only highly regarded in the translation community but is also well known for his contributions to several non-profit organizations, a testament to his personal commitment to the well-being of others. I am confident that JAT will benefit greatly if Phil is elected as a director of the organization again.

この度、現JAT理事の渡邉ユカリ様から推薦頂き、JAT理事に立候補しました上村魁と申します。
通翻訳会社のジャック・インターナショナルを経営する傍ら、いち翻訳者、いち通訳者として経験を積んでまいりました。
近年、AI技術の進化が著しい一方で、その影響は私たちの業界にも及んでいます。自動翻訳ツールが日々進化し、翻訳者・通訳者の仕事の在り方に影響を与えています。また、インボイス制度などの法制度の変化もあり、これらの業界で働く私たちには新たな課題が増えています。しかし、私はこのような変化を逆手に取り、新たなチャンスに変えることができればと考えています。
翻訳者・通訳者が持つ強みは、人間だからこそ理解・判断できる文化的な背景や感情を的確に伝える能力です。これはどんなAIにも真似できない、独自の強みです。私の目指すJATは、会員の皆様がそれぞれの強みを存分に発揮し、自信を持って新たなチャレンジができるような環境を提供する組織です。
そのためには、我々が持つ最新の情報や知見を共有し、互いの経験や知識から学ぶ場を設けることが重要です。そのような活動を通じて、JATの会員数を増やし、皆様の生活と業界全体をより良くしていくことを目指します。

株式会社ジャック・インターナショナルの代表取締役社長として、会社運営をしつつ自らも通訳翻訳に携わる上村魁さんは、今年開催の英日・日英翻訳国際会議（IJET-31）でもスピーカーとして登壇予定であるなど、JATの活動に賛同して積極的に参加してくださっています。
私が共同ホストを務める「翻訳マーケティング会議」で開いたオンライントークの場所でも、幅広い経験をもとに有益なお話の数々をシェアしてくださったりしました。
